North Korea reportedly launched a missile early Friday morning over Japan, prompting authorities in Japan to issue alerts and advise people to seek shelter.

South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported the missile launch. The Japanese government advised people to take cover in buildings or underground, national public broadcaster NHK reported.

The missile launch comes amid rising tension between North Korea and the US and its allies, including Japan and South Korea.
